About Me

I have been a practicing Clinical Psychologist from 2012 working in both the private and public sector in Trinidad and Tobago. My academic study, observation of societal factors, and coupled clinical experience has cemented my therapeutic approach being focused on trauma.

I utilize a trauma informed approach to therapy; believing that one's life experience shapes who they are, how they view themselves, and how they interact with the world. Overwhelming or traumatic experiences lead us to have problematic views of ourselves and unhealthy coping.

I also specialise in psychological testing and psychoeducational assessments to evaluate personality characteristics and dynamics; developmental delays; mental, emotional, academic, intellectual, and parental functioning; as well as psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults.

I provide workshop facilitation  and training programs in the corporate setting including, but not limited to, emotional intelligence, stress management, and team building.

It is my fundamental belief that we all have the capacity to heal from our past and create the life we want given support.

Experience

In addition to my current work as a private practitioner, I am also a Consultant Psychologist and Clinical Supervisor for the Rape Crisis Society of Trinidad. In this role, I provide clinical supervisory support for counsellors and remote psychotherapy for refugee and asylum seekers via an interpreter facilitated therapeutic model under the Better Together Challenge under the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to refugees and asylum-seekers in Trinidad and Tobago.

I am also a Consultant Clinical Psychologist for The Morris Center of Trinidad and Tobago, where I am part of transdisciplinary team of professionals, who provides in depth assessment to identify strengths, weaknesses and likely contributors to learning, language or sensory difficulties. The assessment outcomes inform academic and treatment planning to support needs.

I have been a volunteer with the Franciscan Institute Trauma Team since 2014 offering support both locally and regionally providing psychological first aid in the aftermath of natural disasters. Most recent response has been to the islands of Carriacou and Petite Martinique, Grenada in the wake of Hurricane Beryl. Trauma support services were provided to affected high school teachers with the support of the Ministry of Education through in person psycho-educational sessions as well as individual therapy.

In my previous role as the Lead Assessment Clinician at Douglas and Associates Limited I worked a service provider to the Family and Children’s Division (FCD) of the High Court of Trinidad and Tobago, providing psychological assessments and treatment in matters of sexual offences, child custody, parenting capacity and domestic violence. I have often served as an expert witness, in the resolution of matters before the FCD.

I was instrumental in providing training for the Sexual Offenses Court in the jurisdiction of Guyana areas of gender-based violence and service delivery. Most recently, as a part of the Spotlight Initiative through the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in partnership with the Judiciary of Trinidad and Tobago, I co-facilitated trainings to Judicial Officers, Court Staff, and Justice Partners, with the aim of providing support in their handling of domestic violence matters. I have also facilitated workshops for the Sexual Offences Court in the jurisdiction of Guyana areas of gender-based violence and service delivery.
